Central Adriatic Ports Authority and Customs andNational Customs Agency have signed, for the first time in the national port sector, a protocol that activates an advanced and innovative process of digital control and tracking of the transport of freight on ferries and, in the near future, of containers, within the Doric port.
An innovative solution, which is tested, not by chance, in a leading port for international ferry traffic, which allows to virtually expand port spaces, thanks to an artificial intelligence software, for the tracking and recognition of trucks embarking and disembarking, which will then be extended to container traffic.
The TinS- Trasferimento In Sicurezza - project, shared by the Customs andNational Customs Agency, Central Adriatic Ports Authority and Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza, has allowed, as a test, from June 2018, the moving of all the heavy vehicles that stationed in the historic port of Ancona, awaiting boarding.
Currently, the heavy vehicles are located in a customs area, outside the port, the intermodal terminal “Scalo Marotti”.
A test capable of reducing the passage of heavy vehicles within the port, with an annual saving estimated at 60,000 km overall, one and a half times the circumference of the earth.
In the context of the TinS project, the innovative nature of the introduction of artificial intelligence technology for the monitoring and tracking of freight transport by ferries in a Community border port, such as the Port of Ancona, has also been approved by the European Commission. The SMART-C project, designed and presented by ADSPMAC under the CEF-Connecting Europe Facility programme, aims at developing and testing artificial intelligence technology for the tracking of vehicles entering and leaving the port of Ancona. It has obtained an European Commission funding of over € 500,000 by 2020.
Thanks to the artificial intelligence system, acquired by Central Adriatic Ports Authority and made available to the Customs and National Customs Agency, Guardia di Finanza and port operators, the trucks embarking and disembarking will be tracked in all their movements, throughout the entire path that will lead them from the customs parking to the boarding areas and vice versa. Any anomaly, along this path, will be reported to the Customs Police staff, without the need of direct and continuous monitoring.
