The works for the reconstruction and modernization of this infrastructure had a concrete start after the Second World War, followed by further interventions that shaped the port as a typical “basin” one.
The port’s mouth is delimited by two breakwaters for a width of about 250 meters and the surface of the port basin is equal to 121.000,00 m2. The operational quays have a total length of approximately 1000 metres: nearly 680 m are related to the commercial traffic of the port (180 m along the Western quay; 300 m along the Shore quay; 200 m along the Eastern quay).
The port hosts the fishing fleet, as well as vessels for the loading and unloading of bulk goods, with a total movement of approximately 550,000 tons per year.
