Located in a strategic position as regards the industrial and productive areas of Central Italy, the port of Ortona is a multifunctional port, included in the Motorways of the Sea Network.
The port's main traffic is the handling of solid and liquid bulk and exceptional cargo, for around 1 million tons/year. Cruise traffic has recently consolidated, thanks to the inclusion of the port in the itineraries of small cruise companies.
In addition to commercial and passenger traffic, the port hosts a dock for leisure boating and the Mandracchio area dedicated to marine fishing.
The port area is connected by a railway connection to the near Adriatic railway line.
