PROJECT OBJECTIVE:  promoting sustainable tourism and blue growth in the Italy-Croatia cooperation area, through the enhancement of the important maritime cultural heritage of 8 Adriatic, Italian and Croatian ports (Ancona, Venice, Trieste, Ravenna, Rijeka, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Split) as drivers for the development of ambitious and balanced paths.

The project concerns the enhancement of the tangible and intangible historical heritage of ports in terms of tourism, creation of new economic opportunities and new jobs. In particular, the REMEMBER project will allow the creation of tourist itineraries and interventions to enhance the historical and monumental heritage. The project has a strong innovative dimension as it will also lead to the creation of 8 "Virtual Museums": in the ports of Ancona, Ravenna, Venice, Trieste, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik actions will be carried out to virtualize and make the cultural heritage, traditions and experiences of each port innovative. Different actions, but all of which will be coordinated so as to be able to share the contents in a single multilingual portal, designed to preserve and promote the awareness and attractiveness of Adriatic ports.

The main activities are the following:

  • COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES

The communication activities of REMEMBER project aim at achieving the following specific objectives:

- Increase awareness and spread knowledge about the historical, social and cultural ties that have developed over the centuries between ports and cities and on the role of "cultural hub" played by ports for the social and economic development of cities;
- Promote the cross-border strategy of Italian and Croatian Adriatic ports to preserve and enhance the common cultural heritage, activating a multiplier effect on other cultural sites in the Adriatic-Ionian area;
- Raise awareness and attract economic operators and public authorities to enhance ports as "cultural hubs" and to create a new sustainable development path based on the creation of new and better jobs.

  • PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF ADRIATIC ITALIAN AND CROATIAN PORTS

The preservation of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the ports involved is the first fundamental step for the enhancement of their historical and cultural value for the purposes of economic and social development of the territories.

This goal is achieved with the following activities:

- Preservation of the maritime cultural heritage of the Italian and Croatian Adriatic ports through the collection and systematization of the intangible cultural heritage contents - history, traditions, artistic and cultural experiences, social relations - of the ports involved for the realization of a virtual museum;
- Preservation of tangible historical heritage in port areas through the carrying out of studies and technical planning for the preservation of sites or historic buildings of the ports and their exploitation at a tourist and economic level.

  •  KNOWLEDGE AND USABILITY OF CROSS-BORDER CULTURAL HERITAGE OF ADRIATIC ITALIAN AND CROATIAN PORTS

Promotion of the tangible and intangible maritime cultural heritage of Italian and Croatian Adriatic ports as a prerequisite for the creation of new opportunities in the tourist and cultural field, allowing the spread of knowledge on the common historical and artistic heritage between the two Adriatic shores, while reducing at the same time the seasonality of tourist flows and increasing accessibility to cultural sites.

This goal is achieved through:

- Implementation of 8 virtual museums, one for each port project partner, able to promote the use of ICT, Augmented Reality and virtual reality technologies for cultural and tourist purposes.
- Enhancement of tangible cultural heritage in Italian and Croatian Adriatic ports through the preparation or restoration of spaces in port areas to enhance their usability for cultural and tourist purposes.

  •  ADRIATIC PORTS CULTURAL NETTWORK

Creation of a Cultural Network of Adriatic sea ports based on a common framework for cross-border coordination, aimed at promoting and enhancing the common maritime cultural heritage for tourism purposes and economic diversification. This phase consists of the following activities:

- Cultural network of Adriatic ports. Creation of the cultural network of Adriatic ports and drafting of the transnational strategy for managing cultural tourism.
- Promotion activities for the cultural network of Adriatic ports through participation in thematic fairs on tourism and the realization of the related promotional material.
